Yikes! Last Day to Register for 2010 BJP! Pictures!

December 15th is the last day to register for the 2010 BJP...

If you're undecided, take a look at my blog, here. I just posted pictures of some of my favorite pieces from the past year of the BJP... 42 pictures (most click-to-enlarge)... work by 40 of our participants!!!! I was erratic at saving pictures, so I didn't get all of my favorites. Also some members don't have a blog or didn't post pictures to the website. However, the pictures I posted will give you some grand inspirations and incentives to join the 2010 BJP!!!!

Happy holidays, everyone!!!
Robin

PS... If you're having difficulty registering or have questions about it, you can email

me: robin[at}robinatkins{dot]com
or Pam T: pamtru63{at]gmail[dot}com

PSS... Thanks for your well wishes about my Mom. During the week I was in Minnesota, she rallied nicely. I'm hoping she'll make her 93rd birthday in January!

HI from Chilly Minnesota...

Hi everyone!

My dear Mom took a turn for the worse a week ago and we thought her time among us was at an end. So my sister (who lives in Everett, WA) and I flew back to MN to be with her. Luck for us, she has rallied and we are spending some quality moments with her.

In the meantime, I've been having a little time to bead again with Julie, Pam and Brenda, all three BJP participants living in St. Paul, MN! Tomorrow we're going to Pam's for another session. We're having great fun talking about our ideas for BJP 2010. Brenda's working on a special beaded box that will hold her 2010 pieces. I won't spill the beans about it, but it's going to be amazing! Pam's talking about wanting more texture, more dimension to her pieces. Julie is still very undecided. Me too, although I have lots of ideas and I'm pretty sure I'll do some shape other than 4x6, the postcard shape I've been using for the past two years.

What about YOU????????

Will you be with us? I hope so!!!! There are only 5 more days to register. Really, truely, it is not hard. If the registration information on our website seems to difficult or doesn't work on your computer, just email Pam T or me and tell us you want to be in. We'll take care of it.

One current member emailed me to say she hadn't finished this year's pieces yet and therefore felt she shouldn't do it again. My answer is this: Don't be bogged down by last year's business... If you think you'd like to try it again, go for it. Let 2008-09 rest and move on!!!

May you all have a deliciously wonderful holiday season. May your stockings be filled with fabulous beads!

Hugs to you all,
Robin

Double Infinity - August is done - What a trip!

Okay, i know i posted an almost finished copy awhile back, but now it's done and i've added it to Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/30235567@N07/3944902825/in/pool-871696@N21

For those who were wondering, the center is a pressed celluloid button which i fell in love with.

I must say i am really touched to have been involved in this project. I have definately learned to trust my creativity. When i look at those 12 4x4 squares on my wall, i am amazed at how i transformed some tiny glass beads into glimpses of my soul.

I'm thinking of beading button covers next time. You'll just have to wait and see! Bye for now...

Promoting the Bead Journal Project for Year 3

Last year we found that the best way to get the word out about the bjp was to mention it on your blog. Whether you're continuing or not, if you can let readers of your blog know that the project is continuing, it will be greatly appreciated.

Important info:

The Bead Journal Project starts in January, 2010.

Registration starts October 15, 2009 at beadjournalproject.com/reg.htm.

No experience is necessary! The goal is to create one visual journal piece a month for a year that includes beads.

Participants work can be seen at beadjournalproject.com/bjp.htm.

Thanks for all your support!!!

That Makes it a Year!!

I'm finished!!
I'm finished!!!
The last month's bead journal page is another departure from my regular 'reproducing my sketchbook' approach. Instead, I decided to reproduce a work by yet another artist in my family in beads.
SO... feel free to click here, or on my sneak peek to the left and check it all out! The year is COMPLETE!!

YIPPIE!!!!
Hmmmm... now to think about next year....

August Finished

Well, all the beading is done....I've still got the last 7 pages to back and add sleeves to, but there's lots of time for that since we won't be starting next year until next year!
It's sure been a great pleasure meeting all the "new" participants in this years BJP and I hope to see you all (and a bunch more) in january!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh...here's the link to my blog with a photo of the whole piece which I'm calling, Goodbye/Hello to Turtle Island.

August almost done - Double Infinity

I said i was going to make a doozy for the last month, and i think i've accomplished that! It's not quite done as i ran out of the 4mm pf cunes and the clear blue 6's. But don't despair - more are on the way! Not knowing how long it will take to get them, I decided to post a picture here of it 'almost done'. It is a mandella of sorts as the year has come full circle once again. Hope you like it.

August and DONE!

This is my last entry for the BJP. It took me a whole month to complete. If you wish to see other pictures click onto my blog and see the other images. It started with a class the first weekend with Sherry Serafini. I've had a blast working on this funky fun piece.
dot

August Finished

12 months...I didn't think I could do it, but I did. I've finished all 12 pieces for 2008-2009 and almost finished the final finishing touches and joining. This has been such a wonderful experience and I'm encouraging others to try it in 2010 with me. Thank you Robin and all the volunteer organizers.
And it has been an eventful 12 months...the election of Obama, the pleasure watching my now 22 year old son mature into a nice adult, the natural beauty of where we live, the happy times spent with family and friends, the challenge but reward of starting a new career, and sadly the loss of friends and the ugliness of the (supposed) debate over health care reform.
I'm looking forward to the next BJP project. You can check my blog for pictures of August and the semi-finshed project.

Double Inifinity - JULY page finally done!

Okay, i admit - it's been awhile since i visited this blog. I've got a 7 and 9 year old and kind of got distracted with amassing a stash of Victorian celluloid buttons this summer. Now that they are back in school (yipee!) and i've got an amazing collection (!) I finished July's page in only a day! It is on a blue batik-like cotton which had swirls and dots all over. I used this really cool clear triangular beads lined in blue and a red hex bead to outline the swirls. The border is a row of crystal triangles topped with the red hex and white and blue 15's.

Since my father was in the navy, i though i should pay tribute to his service, so i went through all my buttons (!) and found 3 with anchors. Note i painted the blue last night - that one was all gold, but didn't seem to quite work.

I like this page alot and find it ironic that it looks so much like my September page which honored my mother. Seems i'm just a swirly gal!

BTW: My oldest was born in August so she told me it has to be the BEST one. I've already got an idea, and will get to work this afternoon. Hope to have it done soon.

Question: how long does this blog stay 'open' to readers since August was oficially the last month? I'm glad to be back but sad it's now ending.

Oh - here is a link to the Flicker site to see my page up close:

Two for the price of one

I can't believe that I've finished this round. Here is the link to both July and August. Be sure to click on the individual photo in order to read about each piece. I'm complete but this is only the beginning, as I'm looking forward to the next one.

Seriously Slacking

I'm sure you've all experienced the 'spurts'. Beadwork and inspiration comes in spurts. Life comes in spurts.... it's just how things go.

...So, after my last late spring spurt, I laid low all summer. It's not that I wasn't creating, it's just I had a lot going on. So I finally finished my July Bead Journal Page. You can check it by clicking the 'peek' or clicking here. I hope to have August done within September - I have ideas!!

At long last . . . .

Since our computer and camera woes are finally over, I have just posted five months' worth of BJP pieces (December, January, February, March and April) on my blog at http://artfulmuse.blogspot.com/ . All of which means I am up to working on May at the moment. Obviously, I won't be finished by August 31st . . . .

Must say that I am loving this new computer!!!!

Behind... and a change

I am waaaaay behind. I have only completed 2 months so far. So, what I have decided to do is completely change what I am doing. The cuff bracelets have turned out to be too much work for one month in my busy life, so I am now going to do smaller squares (2" x 2" or even 1" x 1" if I can't get my act together) with the goal of completing 12 of them by the end of 2009. I think I even know what I am going to do to display them when I'm done.

August and Last Piece done!

Hey all - I'm done early this month. And now they are all done so I can start thinking about the 2010 BJP! See my last Mirror Mirror on The Wall, with a double dragon machine embroidery.

June's piece, Finally

HI All -
I recently returned from a several week road trip to the SW: AZ, NM, and CA. It was unbelievably wonderful; lots of firsts. I didn't work on any BJP pieces while we were away, so I'm a bit behind, but catching up fast. Here's June's entry. Click on JUNE BJP to see it. Click on the photo itself to get the description. I'm so enjoying this.

While away, I did work on a wall hanging, as a gift for my Chi Gung teacher's 60th birthday; we did a week's workshop with him while in CA and they had a party to celebrate his birthday. I created this piece, as I was so inspired by all of you and this whole journey; I hope this isn't inappropriate, as I would like to share it with you. Here the link in order to see the finished piece. Bruce's Gift Again, click on the photo to be able to read the description of the elements I used. This was the first time that I've left so much of the material showing. It's a 7" circle.

Day late

I'm a Day late, but DONE! And only one more to go. I was telling Robin that I was thinking of making something with these really neat face cream jars, but I just couldn't get my mind wrapped around that project. I'm still so obsessed with these beanie babies. Okay check out my blog to see what I'm talking about. Chris made me a new blog header with some of the beadie beanies I've done. For July I picked a PENGUIN! WHY? Because July 2009 if officially the coolest July ever in Ohio. This year bet out the record set in 1878. It has been cool. I think we swapped weather with Seattle. My friend out there told me it was hot & got up to 95. We didn't even hit 89 one day. So for the cool chilly a PENGUIN!

Crazy Quilt piece for June

My June piece is done and now on-lien. Will not finished my July one on time, but that's the way it goes. I guess I missed the poll as I don't get on the blog often, but I have finished 10 pieces so far and plan to finish all 12. I just love this project. It gives me the impetus to do something new and stretch myself. So, here is my June piece - a crazy quilt with 4 types of embroidery - bead (of course!), hand, machine and ribbon. And I dyed my own ribbon this time - way cool!!!!

I'd like to show another piece I finished - it's for The Beadin Path's Challenge of The Ugly Bug Ball. As you can see, I really like the challenges and projects.

What can I sat about Savannah Georgia?

It won my old heart. I am not sure what captured me about this beautiful city. The people all seem genuinely friendly and full of hospitality that only the south seems to provide. It is a natural way they have with visitors.
I felt welcome, something I had never felt in all my travels as much. We landed in Atlanta in the hottest heat wave in over 30 years. The heat was wet with humidity. We drove our rented car into the charm of historic Savannah. The cobbled streets and antique mansions from days long past stood warm and welcoming. I felt a strange homecoming even though I had never been.

Exploring River street with the tourist trap styled stores that offered an air conditioned shopping experience made a slight dent in my pocket book. The river front across the street was filled with huge barges and ships of every size and style. The breath taking views and historic store fronts were a historians heaven, full of bricks and cobbled buildings. We had to drink our weight in sweet tea to replenish the fluids lost in the 103 degree weather. Sweet tea is the liquid staple in the south. Not the sad imitation at your local McDonalds.
We ate, there are fancy restaurants and local eateries all around this tourist town. We ate at a great river front grotto named Luey’s that will forever be remembered or my tea glass never empty and the best fried shrimp poboy I ever had the pleasure to consume. Our happy friendly waiter was a hoot and I thank him for out afternoon fun stop. Savannah Sweet shop with mouth watering Pralines. Oh Boy...

We ate another time at the Pink House Inn. Our meal was divine. The dessert was called Pecan Basket. I have never had a better dessert and my mouth is watering just remembering it. Then we completed out visit with a Sunday Brunch at Lady and Sons.

We stuffed ourselves yet again but this time on Paula Dean’s Fried chicken and cheddar biscuits, bbq ribs and fried corn…

I think when I visit again, and I surely will, I will rent a vacation house on the gorgeous Tybee Island and live there for a week. With my feet on the ground I know was meant for this California born Jersey Girl to walk on again and again. I left my Heart in Savannah

June 2009 peas and strawberries

I've just completed my 10th sqaure for June. I'm thrilled that we will be able to do this project again, and I've been thinking about what I will do. I like to give myself some requirements as a challenge. This year it was adding a lampwork bead to each piece, and using my existing bead stash. I've all sorts of ideas...adding a found object each month, picking a color scheme in advance, a different shaped piece, a final assemblage, a usable piece, etc. Fortunately there is lots of time to ponder.
Anyway, here is a link to June's piece.

To give ourselves a little time to finish up the current BJP, we will start the new BJP in January of 2010 and it will run through the end of December.

Registration for 2010 BJP will begin in October, following the close of the current BJP. You can keep up to date on registration by checking the Bead Journal Project website, here. Also, I'll post a reminder in September on our blogs.

Please Answer Poll!

Please take a moment to answer the poll at the top of the right sidebar on the 08BJP (#1) blog, here. I'd really like to get an idea of how many people are still participating and how far along we all are. Last year we did two email follow-up surveys... This year I'm trying to get the information by polling you. I really appreciate your response!

Please Tell Us Why...!

I know everyone's busy beading... but if you can spare a moment, will you please take a moment to send me an email telling a little about your experience with the BJP... what it means to you, why you are doing it (what are your rewards), anything you think a prospective new participant might want to hear about it....

With your permission, I'd like to use some of what you write in the information we publish about the 2010 BJP. If you have any reservations about us quoting you, please let me know.

Thanks, everyone! You are so awesome...!

Big hugs and big bravos... Robin A.

Double Infinity - June's block ready for viewing!

Since June is my birth month, I wanted this block to be special to me. I had these really cool half faces I though represent the duality of gemini's and just had to use them! I searched all through my fabric and decided on the 'reverse' side of an oriental teal brocade - imagine that! I've shown a small piece of the fabric for you to see. Don't know what to say - all my pieces seem to look the same to me, an organic bubling effect of color and texture. My favorite beads on this piece are the 4 blue ones on the upper left - i'm at a loss for their name, but think it starts with a c??? Lot of fire polish here - and the picot edging is just perfect. Hope you enjoy it as much as i do! You can go to Flickr to see a larger picture at http://www.flickr.com/photos/30235567@N07/3665757898/in/pool-871696@N21

February BJP

I must confess that I have become a bit of a BJP slacker. I have four (almost five) completed pieces that I have yet to share with you all. My goal is to get them all photographed and blogged about within the next week. First up is my February piece and I'd like to invite you to check it out on my blog if you're in the mood for a virtual trip to a beaded tropical sea.

I am absolutely blown away by the wonderful bead work that everyone has shared through the BJP blogs. I am continually inspired by every one's creativity and am deeply moved by the heartfelt honesty that is shared through the BJP. I consider myself very fortunate indeed to be a part of this group!

... One more month done!

I managed to tackle May within May... despite it now being June before I decided to upload a photograph. I chose to bead a sketch from St. Michel du Cuxa for May - Bruno actually said he wanted to see this one in beads. So, I've done it! It's uploaded on my blog... or you can click on the 'sneak peek' there and it will take you right there!

Happy beading!!

At long last, I have three months' worth of BJP projects posted on my blog. Never been this far behind before! As soon as another batch is mounted and ready, they will find their way to the blog soon, too.

Dot's BJP for May

I just posted on my blog my May 2009 submission for our BJP. I really had fun taking this poor little stuffed bunny (Sprout) and turning it into a yummie orange carrot. My dogs could care less as they are more interested in the REAL DEAL! Can't believe it is May already.

I did do something idiotic. I wasn't thinking and sold my March bear, Shawnee. After I was unpacking from AFIC, I realized it was gone. I really don't think I'm going to make another one, so when I display this year's BJP pieces I guess I'll just have to add a photo of Shawnee.

Double Infinity -MAY done on time!!

I bought a FQ of the fabric awhile ago because I simply LOVED the print. So once again, i really didn't 'create' my block, but rather interpreted the fabric. This seems to be where my talent lies, so I'm sure i'll do it many time over!! With the placement of each bead, the form simply evolved. I had changed the orientation at one point, but once i was done, i returned it to the original perspective. Since there is so much depth to the piece, i needed to make an extra thick picot edge. Maybe one day i'll actually learn to do this properly!! I must say, putting the ultrasuede back on sure is a lot easier now! Hope you like it too. May's Journal Piece Completed

Hi All -

Here's my May brooch, part of my future wall hanging. You can see all the May flowers blossoming with the happy Spring colors. Double Infinity - Aprils up - just a little late!

ABOVE IS MY FIRST CRAZY QUILT BLOCK CREATED FOR A CLASS ON JOGGLES. LOTS OF BEADS!!

Okay, I know it's almost the end of May, but i finally finished my April piece a few days ago. My youngest came into my craft room and said "mommy - why isn't that done yet, you are always so on time!" Well, let's see, there was the embellished crazy quilt class i took on Joggles (see photo above - i just had to share it with you!!), and my 100 year old grandfather's passing to keep me busy. But i am already almost done with May, so i guess i've caught up! I started my April block with a lovely batik and used the flow of the colors to create an organic "Spring Blossoming". I really love the sparkle of the true cuts. Hope you like it too! Heres the link to get a better look up close. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30235567@N07/3546596332/in/pool-871696@N21

This month's piece includes 2 of my favorite plants, trilliums and ferns. They look so good together, the primitive quality of the ferns and the delicate beauty of the trilliums make a great combination. I haven't done the ferns justice, and will need to try other designs if I include them again. But at least they are green! You can see the complete piece here.

May done with a landscape

Hi all - just finished my May piece which is the 1st time I've tried to make a landscape. I also included some ribbon embroidery. I'm excited about next month because I'm taking a crazy quilting class so those techniques will be used in June. This is right up my alley. But back to May - View May BJP here. All my pages have a roll over so if you are viewing the back of the mirror, move your mouse off the image to see the beaded side. Take care and Have a Beady Good Day. Karen

Just a little slice of heaven, aka April. Forsythia and rain, daffodils and dandelions. What a wonderful time of year. It is so hard to be depressed, what with the mysteries poking through the ground, trees with their new leaves and more sunlight every day! Simplistic I know, but sometimes simple is good! Take a look at my complete April piece. Happy beading!

Catching Up (...as if you knew I was falling behind)

I really was falling behind - since my March Journal page kinda became two pages, I've had a few commissions, and I'm still catching up from going to Europe... I'm happy to be caught up and I'm working on May's journal page in MAY! YAY!!

If you click on my 'Sneak Peek' to the left, or click here you can see the whole piece (along with a little ramble on my insanity...)

Happy Beading!
