Undecided

Is anyone else having this problem? I have changed my mind on the size of my page at least twice a day for the last week. Do I want a square or a rectangle? It's driving me crazy. Determining the size is such a huge first step. The size chosen now will be the size for all of the pages. I don't want it to be too big, but then it needs to be big enough. Right now I think I have it narrowed to either 3 by 5 inches or 4 by 4 inches. Maybe I should flip a coin.

i am having the same problem. After doing all those hearts last year, I want to do something WITHOUT curves - that's all I know for certain.

I'm having the same problem. I finally typed 4X6in my introduction - so I would quit changing my mind - but it hasn't worked. I'm still debating.
I've been drawing some sketches on 4x6 index cards just to see how it feels - you might try a few sketches in 3x5 and in 4x4 and see which one feels better.

After reading the comments from last year's participants, I decided to go small. Really small. 2.75 inches by 2.75 inches. I have a pretty good start on it now so I am thinking I should have gone bigger.

Or I could do two for each month...

Right.

I still haven't decided either. Last year I did circles. This year I'm thinking maybe triangles that will create a large circle in the end. I figure come Sept. I'll take out some beads and they will tell me what shape they want to be.

I thought I had it figured out and now I've got 3 more ideas and can't choose which one...so, I'm thinking I'll do all 4 and whichever one I like the most will be the one I do 11 more of....or I'll end up doing 4 separate series!

Oh my -- and I thought I was the only one who had ideas for at least three different formats!

If you plan on covering the surface with beads, smaller might be better. Last year I did 3" and a bit by 5" and a bit, and that's a lot of beads! I did one that didn't totally cover the surface, but mostly the design just wants to be all filled in. This year I will go smaller, but, no, I haven't decided on a set size or shape yet, either. I'll let the beads decide, I think.

The good news is... you only have to face this decision one time. After that, for 11 months, it's relax and start beading.

I do agree with Lois about the relationship of size to amount you plan to bead... solid beading is a time commitment and seems more practical on a smaller page.

One last thought is that the size is not critical to visual journaling... Lunnette (see member page on website) made 1.25 inch beaded buttons last year and still conveyed a nice sense of what was going on for her during each month.
So I'm thinking it might even be OK just to flip a coin...

I was having this issue as well, then I remembered that my partners mom had given me this pile of upholstery fabric samples (literally hundreds of them, all the same size) so I decided to put them to use, rather than let them just gather dust!

I'm doing little mini "quilts" that will be semi-beaded.

I did 4"X6" last year & learned I am not an "encruster" beader -- although I love the encrusted looks others do!

This year, I too am agonizing over what size to do -- but am thinking of going larger so I can add other fiber art fun to the beads that are now appearing on everything I make! Somehow it is reassuring to see everyone else puzzling over these same basic choices. Wait, I like the idea of a puzzle piece shape too! or the buttons ... or .... maybe I'll stick to my tried & true 4" x 6" again?
