sewing machine

Here's a question related to the creation of a BJP page:

What kind of sewing machine do you recommend?

In the past I had a low-end Singer and had lots of tension problems. So I want a good quality, solid, reliable machine to work on BJP and collage-type pieces.

Thanks, Susan

I have owned a wonderful Pfaff machine for nearly 12 years now, Susan. This brand is unbelievably reliable.

Previous to this machine, I owned Brother's sewing machines which lasted over 20 years. My sister just bought a reasonably priced Brother's for quilting purposes and loves it!

Boy, that's a tricky question. You will get a million opinions. The only one I will give you is to be sure to take whatever classes are offered with the machine to learn everything you can do with it.
Good Luck!

I too have a very old Pfaff... I bought it in 1972 if I remember correctly. It still sews like a dream.

However, I do all of my BJP work by hand. I just love hand work, love sitting quietly and stitching. It doesn't have to go quickly...

Yep, you'll get lots of answers on this one. I personnally have a Bernina since 1996 and have had no problems with it. I took all the classes that were offered with the machine and that helped a lot. Maybe if you can find a place to try the machines out, go in knowing what you want and about how much you want to spend because machines aren't inexpensive these days. Good luck - let us know what you come up with. Oh, I also have 2 Singer Featherweights that are real troopers! They just don't stop!

I also have a Pfaff sewing machine, bought in 1985 or so. I love it. I haven't used it as much as I did before beads entered my world, but I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into a Pfaff or Bernina...or improving my hand sewing skills!
